Volunteer Opportunities

In a post-covid world, it's often hard to get involved in your community as a student. As part of our aim to help students develop their skills and get involved in their community, we've curated a range of volunteer opportunities for you to try out!

Do you enjoy organizing, planning, and executing events? Do you want to gain experience in social media content creation? Are you passionate about learning, and want to share this passion with a group of like-minded individuals? Do you want to see more accessible resources for students? This is your chance to join our dedicated team, and help shape the future of education! đź“š

Eligibility: high school and undergraduate students are encouraged to apply. Applicants interested in content creation do not have to live locally in Halifax. This includes graphic design and ghost writing opportunities.

Here are a few volunteer opportunities in which you can be a part of from the comfort of your own home.. or wherever you choose!

  1. Sending Sunshine:

This is a wonderful charity which delivers cards to the elderly from people all across Canada! You can design and write cards of your own choice and mail them to their P.O box. Super easy and fun! A definite recommendation for those who enjoy drawing/writing and love to give back to the senior community.

PS. In the summer, one of my favorite things to do is go to the beach… why not write a few cards while you’re there!

3. Outreach Volunteer for the “Global Gen-Z AI Research Project”

This is a low commitment volunteer opportunity in which you can engage with your peers about our generation's opinions of AI. To do so you get to engage with others through social media regarding AI. Everything you need is sent to you, and it's > 2 hrs/week!

4. United Nations Volunteers (UNV)

If you wish to expand your online volunteering globally, this is the ideal starting point! UNV enables you to connect with organizations dedicated to peace and development, seeking skills such as research, writing, art, and design.

5. Amnesty Decoders

This is a website in which you can work directly with Amnesty International… through your computer or phone! There are various projects, which all in some way, shape, or form, allow volunteers to sift through pictures, information, and documents. Their latest project involved decoding security camera footage to identify which ones use face recognition!
